Hawaiian Kona Coffee is a coffee of discerning drinkers, find out why here.

Hawaiian Kona Coffee, also referred to as Kona Coffee is grown on the slopes of Mauna Loa and Hualalai volcanoes on the southwest coast of the Big Island of the Hawaiian group. The rich volcanic soil and low afternoon cloud produce an environment like no other. While the altitude of this coffee growing area reaches no higher than 2,500 feet, it produces very sweet, incredibly smooth coffee flavors from it’s bright red pea berries.

The pea berry is the most sought after of Hawaiian Kona Coffee Beans. The pea berry beans is a single fused bean rather than the normal two beans in the berry. This single bean contains concentrated flavor and richness of body. Only 5%-10% of a Kona harvest contains the single pea berry beans.

Hawaiian grading of Kona Coffee Beans include Extra Fancy, Fancy, No.1 and Prime, with Extra Fancy being the highest grade and Prime the lowest grade. Lowest grade is really understating the wonderfully rich sweet flavours that can be found in Kona Coffee.

Kona Coffee is generally sun-dried.

Beware
Kona Coffee blends. As with all coffee, any mention of blend will usually mean that that bolder, richer, more desirable coffee beans will make up less of the blend compared with cheaper beans. In the case of many Kona blends, expect around 10% of the blend to be Kona Beans.

Of all the great coffees, HawaiianKona Coffee is one of the stand-outs.
