How to make a Macchiato

How to make a Macchiato??? Does there really need to be a page on this? If you know what it is, then probably not. For those who don’t know, read on, this one is really easy.

Macchiato in Italian means ‘marked’ or ’stained’. A Macchiato is simply an Espresso coffee marked by a dollop of milk. I told you it was going to be easy.

Some people use a dollop of foamed milk, some use cold milk, some use hot milk. The traditional way was to use steamed milk (foamed milk). But its your coffee, so you choose how you prefer it.

So how do you make one?

Steps for making a Macchiato:

  1. Get hold of some dark roasted espresso beans. Oily-looking is the choice bean here. Use the darkest of the espresso coffee beans. Traditional Italian Style!
  2. You want to grind these espresso beans until they are very fine.
  3. Pack the grinds into the group (handle) of the espresso machine.
  4. Place your cup/s under the group. Turned on your espresso machine. You should see a hazel brown crema appear at the surface of the coffee when its finished.
  5. Take a small spoon and place it just above the crema’s surface, so that it is not touching your coffee.
  6. Pour a dollop of milk onto the spoon, allowing it to flow into the coffee from the spoon. Don’t let the milk splash through the coffee, it should just roll into it.

Now all you have to do is enjoy your Macchiato!!!
